Centre Stage has a fantastic reputation in the Midlands not only for its shows and performances, but also for offering high quality, affordable training. Throughout the year we offer a jam packed programme of training, performances and presentations, as well as offering experiences such as world record attempts, competitions, theatre trips and exams.
Dance, Act, Sing - Perform
Students at Centre Stage are taught skills in Dance, Drama and Music equally. We have a strong belief that performance in this day have to be strong all three subject in order to find work in one particular area. For this reason we teach these three subjects equally. Performances and presentation gives students the opportunity to bring these three subjects together - to create a musical theatre performance.
Shows & Performances
Throughout the year our students take part in 2 - 3 performances and presentations. in a normal year we produce 1 full scale show normally around July time, as well as a small presentation / performance around March / April time.
Our full scale performance take place in one of the larger theatres in Derbyshire and have a budget of around £10,000. We hire in a full size set & costumes, and students have the opportunity to perform whilst being accompanied by a like 6 - 10 piece orchestra. Principal characters use the latest technology such as trantec radio mics and condenser microphones as well as being lit by a full rig of lighting.
Our students normally take part in 2 -3 performances at the end of the rehearsal period and are all invited to come a long to a after show party afterwards.
Exams
During the Autumn term our students are offered the opportunity to take Lamda and IDTA exams in Musical theatre, Verse and Prose, Acting, Reading for a performance, Mime, Improvisation, Devised performance, Freestyle dance and tap. Routines for dance exams are taught in class with everybody taking part. Exams are completely optional for all students.
Confidence Development
Much of what we do at Centre Stage gives students an opportunity to work as part of a team, but also to shine on their own. Students at Centre Stage grow with confidence as the exercises and techniques we work with allow them to open up and become more of an individual. The final hurdle for many students is getting up onto the stage and performing, but all manage it and come out of a performance with even more confidence.
